At 180 Drinks we offer three main types of mixology lessons: lite, beginner, and advanced. The following is a brief summary of the three different drink mixing classes.

Lite Mixology Class

Looking for mixology classes for fun? This option is right for you if you are looking to incorporate a brief entertaining cocktail making class into your next event while and offering a regular bar service. We can provide a brief mixology class for you and your guests covering select topics from our beginner and advanced cocktail lessons. The lite mixology classes are usually 30 to 90 minutes with the time depending on what you would like us to cover.

Beginner Mixology Class

In about three hours you and your guests will acquire the knowledge and skill to craft several tasty, well balanced cocktails. We provide hands on experience with the basic tools, ingredients, and techniques to make excellent drinks. The following is a general overview of our beginner mixology lesson, including techniques and knowledge shared.

Techniques

You and your guests will acquire the following techniques in this mixology lesson:

  • Stirring, shaking, straining, rimming, muddling, and garnishing stirred and shaken cocktails
  • Fresh juice and garnish preparation
  • Preparing simple sweeteners, and using these to round off a drink and add texture to a cocktail
  • Using bitters to change the flavor or texture of a cocktail
  • Proper storage of drink ingredients
Knowledge

You and your guests will acquire the following knowledge in this cocktail making workshop:

  • Liquor types, differences, and recommended bottles
  • Basics of how spirits and liqueurs are made
  • Differences between spirits, liqueurs, and modifiers and impacts on cocktails

Advanced Mixology Class

This three hour advanced mixology class builds on the beginner cocktail mixing class, while inducing several new advanced cocktail making lessons, techniques, and knowledge. You and your guests will create several cocktails in this experience. The following is a general overview of our advanced mixology lesson plan, including techniques and knowledge shared.

Techniques

You and your guests will acquire the following techniques in this drink making class:

  • How to infuse spirits with different ingredients such as tea, herbs, spices, fruit, vegetables, and nuts
  • How to make your own bitters
  • Creating complex sweeteners, and using these to round off a drink and add texture to a cocktail
  • Advanced cocktail rimming and garnishing techniques
  • How to prepare a smoked cocktail
  • How to rinse a cocktail glass
  • Preparation and use of different ice types
  • Tasting, and evaluating cocktails
  • Basic molecular gastronomy techniques
Knowledge

You and your guests will acquire the following knowledge in this cocktail making workshop:

  • Impact of difference ice types on dilution and temperature
  • Glassware types, temperature, and impact on cocktail aroma and emotions
  • The basics of infusions including the correct type of solvents, flavorings, vessels, temperature, time, and storage
  • The different types of ingredients you can use to prepare a smoked cocktail
