Barfly Japanese Jigger

A “free pour” refers to the style of pouring spirits or ingredients directly into a glass (mixing or otherwise). When free pouring it is difficult to achieve consistency for three reasons:

  • Various liquid drink ingredients have different levels of viscosity that impact the rate at which these travel through a pour spout and into the drink.
  • The person making the drinks is not typically making the same cocktails over and over again with the same ingredients allowing for the practice necessary to achieve the same results.
  • Cocktails typically have smaller amounts of multiple ingredients making free pouring accurately more difficult.

To help ensure drinks are made consistently tasty these need to be measured by volume. Measuring also allows you to more efficiently create new recipes or improve on existing ones.

The tool used often in cooking to properly measure ingredients would be measuring spoons or cups, and the cocktail equivalent tool is a measured jigger. A measured jigger is a mission critical tool for a cocktail starter set.

We selected the Barfly M37005 as our jigger of choice to help make the best bartender kit because of these benefits:

  • It has interior markings to accurately measure incremental amounts of 1⁄4, 1⁄2, 3⁄4, 1 1⁄2 oz.
  • It is made of stainless steel for extreme durability and easy cleaning.
  • It has an elongated design to support more accurate measurements and smooth pouring.
  • Its satin finish to maintain a great appearance with long term daily use.
