Absolutely. Purchasing your liquor allows you to save money on your open bar catering. You can return any product for a full refund or keep it for use in your next open bar!
For returns to the LCBO in Toronto, you need a sealed product with an intact label. You will need the original receipt. Return all unused products within thirty (30) days of purchase. When returning alcohol purchased at a store for a permit event, you should have the permit and copy of the sales receipt.
You receive cash refunds for Beer Store returns only for Special Occasion Permit (SOP returns). The product must be sealed and in its case (if applicable).
An open bar can quickly become pricey if you aren’t careful. Don’t worry. That’s why we are specialists in open bar catering!
Since you can return unused liquor, it becomes easy to establish a conservative liquor budget for your event based on the maximum guests will consume.
You can assume each guest will consume one standard distilled alcohol drink (43 ml of 1.5oz) per hour per guest. Why base your budget on distilled alcohol you ask? Distilled alcohol is slightly more expensive than a standard drink of beer or wine.
To help develop a preliminary liquor budget, you can use our handy party alcohol calculator.

We create a detailed liquor order estimate using our experience and data from many events. This is after we consider your theme, preferences, budget, and pairings with food. And of course, the kind of crowd you are expecting!
In your liquor order we will recommend the types of liquor and the quantity. Bear in mind this is a recommendation. You are free to customize your open bar! A predominantly older crowd may favor scotch while the young may not care for it! Gin is something that fits in well for both younger and older generations.
We guide you on the type of permit you require, and how to secure your liquor permit (if required). You don’t need a liquor permit for any non-public event in a non-public place with no liquor sales. You only need one if you are offering alcohol for sale, or served anywhere other than in a licensed establishment or a non-public place.
The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) defines a non-public place and a non-public event as:
